Phoebe Howman RTbbodance

I grew up in Cheshire, in a small dance school run from the ground floor of my dance teacher's Victorian townhouse. Helen Bates School of Dancing in Knutsford ran for over 50 years, before closing its doors when I left home at 18.

I was obsessed with dance from an early age; my favourite TV show was Angelina Ballerina (and I had all the books too!) and began helping in younger classes at the age of ten, due to coming to the studio early, straight from school.

I took my BBO exams in Classical Ballet and Tap up to and including Grade 7, learning the higher grades but leaving for university before I could take my Grade 8 exams. At university, I studied history and joined the Royal Holloway Dance Society, serving on its 2021/22 committee as Secretary. I competed around the country for the university on ballet and tap teams, then taught classes for fellow students in my spare time.

In 2024 I completed my bbodance Level 5 Diploma in Dance Teaching, and became a Registered Teacher in 2025. I spent my teacher training under the guidance of several longstanding bbodance RTs, at Kathleen Atherton Academy of Dance, Leigh, and Dance Factory Studios, Bradford.

Since moving to York in 2023, I have taken cover work at Katie Ventress School of Dance and Northern Dance Academy. Now, it is finally time to start my own venture!

My 'other job' is as a school Teaching Assistant. I take safeguarding very seriously and have a strong understanding of childhood development and learning processes. Inclusivity and accessibility are core values of mine, and I look forward to welcoming your child to this wonderful little dance school.
